Last week Congresswoman Kim Schrier met with the Douglas County Board of Commissioners and local agency leaders for a briefing on the Wenatchi Landing project.
Last week Congresswoman Kim Schrier attended a project briefing at the Douglas County Public Services Building to discuss the Wenatchi Landing development.
Wenatchi Landing is a planned 317-acre mixed-use community on the east bank of the Columbia River, just across the US-2 bridge from Sunnyslope and Wenatchee. The approved Master Site Plan calls for a vibrant mix of housing, office space, retail, business parks, resort-style lodging, and wineries—all connected to the Apple Capital Loop Trail. The project is planned in three phases, with Phase 1 currently seeking funding support.
Douglas County has applied for an $18 million BUILD (formerly RAISE) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to fund Phase 1 of the project. Congresswoman Schrier, who represents Washington’s 8th District, joined Representative Dan Newhouse, U.S. Senator Patty Murray, and U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell in sending a letter of support to U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy backing the application. In addition, Congressman Newhouse, Senator Murray, and a representative from Senator Cantwell’s office have each recently visited the Wenatchi Landing site separately and attended briefings on the project.
“This is a wide-open palette,” said Douglas County Commissioner Chair Marc Straub after thanking Congresswoman Schrier for her attendance. “All of us in the room have made this a priority, and with your support, Congressman Newhouse’s support, and Senator Murray’s support, we have a real shot at getting this off the ground and realizing the fruition. Whether it’s job creation, enhanced safety, or access for recreation, the benefits are far-reaching. We look at this not only for Douglas County, but as a region too, because we operate as a region with our friends across the river in Chelan County. It has the capacity to affect and benefit a lot of folks, both in and around Douglas County.”
The briefing also included representatives from Link Transit, Chelan-Douglas Transportation Council, Chelan-Douglas Regional Port Authority, Douglas County Sewer District, and WSDOT, all emphasizing the project’s potential to boost commerce, create jobs, and close key infrastructure gaps in the region.
