Filing for Elective Office

All Candidates must complete and file a Declaration of Candidacy, meet the qualifications for the office at the time of filing, and be registered to vote in the district. Read the Candidate Manual for more information.

Online

You may file your Declaration of Candidacy online on VoteWA's online candidate portal. Online filing begins Monday, May 15th at 9 am and closes Friday, May 19th at 4 pm.

Requirements to File Online

  • Be registered to vote in the district for which you are filing
  • If filing fee is applicable, you must pay with Visa, MasterCard or American Express
  • Provide a valid email address

In-Person

File in-person at our office beginning Monday, May 15th at 8:30 am and closing Friday, May 19th at 4:30 pm.

Mailed Declarations of Candidacy

Mailed Declarations of Candidacy may be submitted in advance beginning May 1, 2023. Declarations will be held in our office until filing opens on May 15th. Any declaration received prior to that day will be returned and the candidate shall be permitted to re-submit their declaration during the filing period. 

All declarations must be received no later than 4:30 pm on the last day of filing. All mail-in declarations must include the filing fee, if applicable (Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 29A.24.081).
